New nonstop destinations for the people of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan Airlines will begin these three new routes from its headquarters in Baku. The first new flight will depart from Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) and fly to the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, at Islamabad International Airport (ISB). The Islamabad flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning September 20.
The second newly offered destination is Lahore, Pakistan. The flight will depart from Baku and fly directly to Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE). These new flights will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. The first flight will depart Baku on September 22.
The third and final flight to Pakistan is to Karachi. The route departs Baku and flies nonstop to Pakistan's busiest international airport, Jinnah International Airport (KHI). This route will be operating on Thursdays and Sundays and begins on September 21. The alternating days for its new routes provide a flexible schedule for its new travelers.
A spokesperson for Azerbaijan Airlines spoke about the significance of the three new destinations for the airline. They said that the three new cities are important historical and cultural centers of Pakistan. This makes the cities very interesting destinations and the airline should see an influx of travelers as the routes launch. The spokesperson also stated that the new routes would promote tourism, and international transportation, and also strengthen the diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
Azerbaijan Airlines continues expanding its routes
The airline has been in the news recently for not only expanding its offered destinations but also for ordering several new aircraft. The recent uptick in travel demand has allowed the carrier to begin expanding its operations.
The airline recently signed a codeshare agreement with the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, Air Astana. This allows a newfound partnership between the two airlines on one of their most popular routes, Baku (GYD) to Almaty International Airport (ALA) in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan Airlines currently operates this route twice a week, with its Airbus A319. Air Astana operates this route three times a week with either the Airbus A321 or Airbus A320. This new agreement provides increased flexibility for travelers through this route.
Azerbaijan Airlines also recently upgraded its order for more Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline initially made an order for four of the aircraft last summer. However, earlier this year, Azerbaijan Airlines announced it had ordered eight new aircraft, doubling its previous order.
This upgraded order comes just months after Azerbaijan Airlines announced an order for twelve new Airbus aircraft. The order, placed in April earlier this year, was signed for twelve new Airbus A320neo variations. These new aircraft will be a mix of A320neos and A321neos. The airline made this order to replace its current aging fleet of ten older Airbus A320ceo aircraft. The new aircraft will also improve the fuel efficiency of the airline's active fleet.
