Boeing has released its delivery and order figures for June 2023, which show that the manufacturer made 60 deliveries and took orders for 304 aircraft in the month. These numbers represent a substantial increase from the 50 deliveries and 69 orders seen in May 2023.

In total throughout Q2 (April through June 2023), Boeing delivered 136 aircraft, including 103 737 MAXs and 20 787s, and took orders for 407 more. The manufacturer will publish its full Q2 financial results on July 26th.

Q2 deliveries

Southwest Airlines took delivery of the most Boeing aircraft in Q2, receiving 21 737 MAXs throughout the three-month period. This helped the low-cost carrier's fleet to surpass 800 aircraft. United Airlines was close behind, taking delivery of 20 737 MAXs. Boeing also delivered eight 737 MAXs to Alaska Airlines.

When it comes to widebody aircraft, Boeing delivered a total of 20 787s to 12 different customers, including two 787-10s to Taiwan's EVA Air. Oneworld member airlines were well represented in Boeing's Q2 delivery statistics too, with American Airlines, Qantas, and British Airways, taking delivery of three 787-8s, two 787-9s, and two 787-10s, respectively.

Q2 orders

Boeing took an impressive 407 orders in the period April through June 2023. By far the largest order in that time came from Air India, which opted for 190 737 MAXs, ten 777Xs, and 20 787-9s. Fellow Indian carrier, Akasa Air, also placed an order for four 737 MAXs, to join the 19 already in service with the airline.

Other substantial orders came from Riyadh Air and Emirates, which ordered 39 787-9s and 16 777Xs, respectively. The aircraft leasing company, Avalon, also placed an order for 40 737 MAXs. The additional 777Xs ordered by Emirates bring the total number of 777Xs ordered so far up to 363, including 74 from Qatar Airways and 31 from Singapore Airlines.

The 777X, Boeing's latest flagship widebody, is due to enter into service in 2025. The type's largest operator is currently due to be Emirates, which now has 115 777Xs on order.

Lagging behind Airbus

Airbus also recently released its latest delivery and order figures for June 2023, confirming that it still had a backlog of a staggering 8,000 aircraft. The European manufacturer delivered 72 aircraft and took orders for 902 aircraft, including large orders from both IndiGo and Air India.

In the same month, Boeing made 60 deliveries and received 304 orders. The race is now well and truly on to see which of the rival manufacturers can deliver the most aircraft and take the most orders in the remaining six months of 2023.
