Each year Boeing takes hundreds of new aircraft orders from airlines across the globe. With the industry almost fully recovered from COVID-19, 2023 should be no exception. June 6th: Air Niugini Orders Two Boeing 787-8s
The national airline of Papua New Guinea, Air Niugini, announced on June 5 that it had ordered two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. The newest Boeing clean-sheet aircraft will be used to support the growth of the airline's long-haul fleet. Air Niugini has also said that the purchase of the new fuel-efficient aircraft will be used to fly new routes and boost capacity for inbound tourism.

June 19th-23rd: Paris Air Show 2023
Naturally, there was a small flood of orders concentrated during the Paris Air Show. Despite some huge volumes, the actual number of announcements left a lot to be desired. June 20th: China Airlines Adds Eight 787 Dreamliners
Boeing welcomed its first order at the 2023 Paris Air Show after China Airlines firmed up options for eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets. This takes the Taiwanese carrier to 24 Dreamliners on order - it has also converted six of these orders to the larger 787-10 variant.

June 20th: Air Algérie Orders Boeing 737 MAXs & BCFs
Air Algerie has given Boeing its second order of the Paris Air Show, with day 2 looking, so far at least, like a much better day for the US planemaker. The airline ordered eight 737 MAX of the -9 variety, alongside a pair of 737 BCF (Boeing Converted Freighters). The MAX order is firm, and has been on Boeing's orderbook for some time as an 'unidentified customer,' while the BCF commitment is currently a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

June 20th: Avolon Orders 40 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft
Boeing scored a hat trick before lunchtime on day 2 of the Paris Air Show. The latest to firm up an order in Le Bourget is Irish lessor Avolon, placing a firm order for 40 737 MAX 8. At the announcement was Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon, alongside his Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Geaney. Cronin noted the importance of Boeing to Avolon's future.

June 21st: Luxair Adds Boeing 737 MAX 7 Orders
Luxair, the national carrier of Luxembourg, has ordered four Boeing 737 MAX 7 aircraft, becoming the launch customer of the type in Europe. The additional aircraft will strengthen the carrier's Boeing 737 fleet, which has already been given a boost with an order for four 737 MAX 8s earlier this year.

June 21st: Akasa Air Adds 4 Boeing 737 MAX Orders
Indian low-cost carrier, Akasa Air, has placed an order for four Boeing 737 MAX jets at the Paris Air Show 2023, reaffirming their previous intent for a smaller subsequent purchase from Boeing. This additional order serves as a follow-up following the previously placed order for 72 aircraft, bringing the total count to 76. The expanded fleet will comprise 23 737 MAX 8s and 53 high-capacity 737 MAX 8200 aircraft.

May 9th: Ryanair Places Huge Order For Up To 300 Boeing 737 MAX 10s
Low-cost giant Ryanair announced a substantial new order with Boeing for up to 300 737 MAX 10 aircraft today worth $40 billion, of which 150 are firm orders. Negotiations for the order have been ongoing since before the COVID-19 pandemic began but were pulled in September 2021 as Ryanair and Boeing couldn't find a mutually agreeable pricing point. In March, the airline's Group CEO Micheal O'Leary told Simple Flying that Ryanair had finally accepted that it would indeed need to pay more for these aircraft.

May 22nd: Boeing Sells 2 Private 787s-8s & Options For A 777X
Boeing has started the new week in a strong fashion, with the announcement of orders for up to four long-range aircraft from its Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) division. Perhaps the most notable part of the deals, which the US planemaker has signed with undisclosed customers, is the option for a private version of the 777X.

April 28th: Copa Airlines Adds 15 Boeing 737 MAX Orders
Panamanian flag carrier Copa Airlines reiterated its commitment to the Boeing 737 MAX family by upping its order for the type. The Panama City-headquartered Star Alliance member has added another 15 of the next-generation narrowbodies to its order, with Boeing's new single-aisle jet set to become the future of its fleet.

April 28th: Azerbaijan Airlines Doubles Boeing 787 Order
Azerbaijan Airlines proudly shared that it has ordered eight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. This move follows the flag carrier of Azerbaijan’s initial commitment to purchase four 787s last summer.

April Total: Deliveries Fall Behind Airbus In April After March High
After delivering 64 new aircraft in March, Boeing slipped back to just 26 in April, falling well behind Airbus, which had 54 in the same month. Conversely, the company reported 34 gross orders, compared to Airbus with just five, although 29 of the 34 were for unidentified customers.

March 2nd: The Lufthansa Group Orders 7 More Boeing 787s
The Lufthansa Group today revealed that it had upped its orders for widebodies from both major planemakers. The German airline group has announced that the order comprises 15 A350s from both variants, alongside seven more Boeing 787-9s.

March 14th: Saudi Carriers Order Boeing 787s Worth $37 Million
Boeing has confirmed that it has secured a significant order from Saudi Arabia worth almost $37 billion. The country's Public Investment Fund had been keen to push through the purchase of 78 Boeing 787s, which also includes the option of a further 43 aircraft. The total order is set to be split between Saudia and startup Riyadh Air.

March 23rd: Japan Airlines Orders 21 MAXs
Japan Airlines will go ahead with plans to order 21 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The order is part of JAL's fleet renewal program with the jets expected to start joining the fleet in around three years' time.

March 30th: EVA Air Finalizes Order For 5 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners
EVA Air confirmed that it is adding five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its holdings. The Taiwanese carrier is looking to boost the efficiency of its fleet with the widebody aircraft. This news won’t come as a huge surprise to those following Simple Flying. It was reported earlier this month that EVA Air was poised for a move for a quint of new Dreamliners.

In the first three months of 2023, Boeing delivered 130 jetliners compared to the 127 delivered by its European rival Airbus. Boeing's deliveries were especially strong in March when the US manufacturer delivered 64 commercial aircraft, its second-highest delivery month in four years.

Feb 14th: Huge Air India Boeing Order
Air India has decided to invest in 190 737 MAX, 20 787 Dreamliners, and ten 777X aircraft from Boeing. The agreement also includes options for 50 additional 737 MAXs and 20 787-9s.

Jan 4th: Hawaiian Airlines Orders 2x Boeing 787
Hawaiian Airlines has placed an order for two more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and deferred the delivery of ten such aircraft that were already on order, according to a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday, January 4th. The announcement comes as the carrier looks to expand its fleet in preparation for increased demand in 2023.

US planemaker Boeing locked-in orders for 55 aircraft last month, with the majority of airframes acquired by unidentified customers.
